Mark came to this work the way many peer facilitators do: through his own years of navigating a mental-health system that was not built with him in mind. He now runs MindForward’s peer-support groups and trains new facilitators, with a particular focus on men and on first-generation adults who were raised to keep struggle private. Mark’s rule for every group he hosts is that nobody has to perform recovery — people are allowed to be exactly as okay or not okay as they are. He co-writes our resources on asking for help and on supporting friends without becoming their therapist.
