À propos
Community Roots Foundation is a locally rooted foundation that supports neighborhood initiatives, volunteer networks, cultural groups, mutual-aid projects, and small organizations working close to the communities they serve. It focuses on the forms of local infrastructure that are easy to overlook but essential during both ordinary times and periods of crisis: trusted relationships, accessible meeting spaces, resident leadership, informal care networks, and organizations capable of responding quickly when needs change.
The Foundation provides small grants, capacity-building support, convening space, and practical guidance to groups that may not have professional fundraising teams or extensive administrative resources. It supports projects concerned with youth, older residents, migration, culture, food access, disability, neighborhood safety, environmental improvement, and social connection. Its funding model emphasizes proportionate applications, transparent decisions, and learning rather than excessive reporting.
Community Roots also helps local groups strengthen governance, volunteer coordination, safeguarding, partnerships, and financial sustainability. It recognizes that community work often depends on a small number of highly committed people and can become fragile when knowledge is not documented, responsibilities are unclear, or leaders become exhausted.
Alongside grantmaking, the Foundation maps local assets, shares community-produced resources, and connects organizations facing similar challenges. During emergencies, it can coordinate rapid funding and communication, but its long-term purpose is to ensure that local networks exist before a crisis begins.
The Foundation believes strong communities are not created by isolated projects alone. They require places where people meet repeatedly, organizations that can retain trust, and mechanisms through which residents can shape decisions affecting their neighborhoods. Its broader goal is to help communities preserve what already works, address gaps collectively, and build local capacity that remains after a particular grant or campaign ends.
